Distribution of minerals- Silver,Zinc, Bauxite, Mica (part-3)

Silver:

  • Chief ores: Argentine ,Stephanite, and Pyrogyrite  and Pronsite .
  • It occurs in mixed with zinc copper lead and gold.
  • Silver is also found in blood zinc dose of the Zawaar mines (Rajasthan) Kolar Gold Field and Hutti gold mines of Karnataka largest producers Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Karnataka.

Zinc:

  • Main Ore: zinc blende
  • It is a mixed Ore containing lead and Zinc (PB + Zn) and more than 99% of the total zinc of India is produced in Zawar area in Udaipur district of Rajasthan.
  • small quantity of this is also produced in Sikkim
  • some deposits have been found in Udhampur district (Jammu and Kashmir) and South Arcot district (Tamil Nadu.)

Bauxite:

  • An important ore of aluminium
  • the deposits were found mainly in tertiary periods
  • it is associated with laterite rocks
  • largest reserves- Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
  • largest producers- Orissa, Gujarat and Jharkhand.

Mica:

  • Three major types of Mica found in India are  (i) Muscovite (Potash mica) (ii) Biotite
  • (Iron-magnesium mica) (iii) Phlogopite
  • About 95% of India's mica is found in three states of Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand .
  • Productions areas: Rajasthan : mica belt from Jaipur in NE  to Udaipur in  SW Rajasthan
  • Bhilwara is the most important centre
  • Light green and pink colour high quality Mica
  • Andhra Pradesh  Nellore mica belt between Guntur and Sangam (100 kilometre long and 25 kilometre wide)
  • Nellore mica is generally light green in colour
  • Jharkhand and Bihar: a belt of 150 kilometre length and 20 kilometre witdh runs from Gaya to Bhagalpur through Hazaribagh Giridih and Munger.
  •  Koderma is the most important centre and world's largest mica market
  • this field contains the richest deposits of high quality Ruby-mica and Bengal mica
  • Largest producers  Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.
