Bones

The skeleton system comprise of bones which provides the basis frame to our body. The skeleton system is made up of two parts :the axial and the appendicular.

Axial skeleton system(80 bones)

Skull contains total 29 bone is cranium contains 8 bones, facial contains 14 bones, ear ossicles contains 6 bones and 1 hyoid bone.

The vertebral column contains a total of 26 bones in adult human as 7 bones are present in cervical 12 bones in thoracis 5 bones in lumber 1 sacral bone and 1 cocxygeal bone.

One sternum and 12 pairs of ribs. Ribs can be classified into three categories. First, the true ribs from 1st pair to the 7th pair. They are directly attached to the sternum. From 8th pair to the 10th pair are called false ribs. They are not directly attached to the sternum, instead they are attached to the 7th rib which in turn is attached to the sternum. The 11th and 12th pair are not at all attached to the sternum. They are called floating ribs. They are only attached to the back bone in the back.

Appendicular skeleton system(126 bones)

It is further classified into two parts: girdles and Limbs. The girdles are classified into two types. First, the pectoral girdle. It is made up of 2 clavide (one on each shoulder) and 2 scapula (one on each shoulder). These two together form a glenoid cavity where the humerus attaches. Second, the pelvic girdle it is made up of 2 coxal bone (one on each hip). The coxal bone is made up of ilium, ischium and pubis fused together. The coxal bone forms acetabulum, a cavity where the femur attaches.

The Limbs are of two types: the fore limb and the Hind limb. One hand (one fore limb) contains 1 humerus, 1 radius, 1 ulna, 8 carpal, 5 metacarpal and 14 phalanges. Total 30 in one hand and 30 X 2 = 60 in fore limb.

One leg (one Hind Limb) contains 1 femur, 1 patella, 1 tibia, 1 fibula, 7 tarsal, 5 metatarsal and 14 phalanges. Total 30 in one leg and 30 X 2 = 60 in hind limb.
