Recently, the Government of India has decided to establish India's first 'Mega Coastal Economic Zone'. This coastal economic zone will be established in the Jawaharlal Nehru Port of Maharashtra.
- This first 'Mega Coastal Economic Zone' of India will expand from the North Konkan region to Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik and Raigad.
- About 45 companies in the Information Technology, Automobile and Telecom Sector will soon make 200 hectares of land for the establishment of manufacturing units in this coastal zone.
- It is known that in the year 2016, the approval of the establishment of 14 mega coastal economic zones was given by the Union Cabinet. These economic zones will be established under the ambitious 'Sagarmala' program of the Government of India. The objective of the program 'Sagarmala' is to promote ports and green growth.
What is the coastal economic zone?
'Coastal Economic Zone' is a special economic zone under which many coastal lakes and ports are included. Their purpose is to harness the inherent economic potential by promoting port-based development. Under these, industrial corridors are planned systematically in coastal areas and in these industrial corridors a 'Business Friendly' environment is provided.
