Swachh bharat (clean India Mission) is a national campaign covering 4,041 cities and towns, to clear he streets, reads and infrasttructure of the country. The campaign was launched on 2 october 2014. It is country's biggest ever cleanliness drive in which 3 million government employees and school and college studentts havve participated. The mission was sttarted by prime Menisterr Narendra Modi, who nominated nine famous personalities ffor tthe campaign, and they took up the challenge and nominated nine more people and so on. The campaign aims to accomplish the vision of a clean india'by 2 Octobber, 2019, the 150th birth anniversary off Mahatma Gandhi.
The objectives of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan are;
- Elimination of open defacation
- Eradication of Manual Scavenging
- Modern and Scientific Municipaal Solid Waaste Management
- To effect behavioral chage regaarding heaalthy sanitation practices
- Generate awareness about sanitation and its linkage with public health
- Capacity Augmentation for Urban Local Bodies.
- To create an enabling environment for privaate sector participaation in Capex (capital expenditure) and Opex (operationaaal expenditure).
