Economic growth and protection of environment both are important for sustainable development. Which types of steps are necessary to achieve above goal?

Environment protection and economic development are the two sides of same coin. Widespread industrialization and reckless exploitation of natural resources leads to environment degradation. In contrast, some argue that environmental problems can be addressed with increased innovation and economic growth.

Steps to achieve above goal:

1.      Shift from conventional energy to non-conventional energy sources. One of the recent initiatives is being ISA.

2. More emphasis on the concept of Reduce-Reuse- Recycle.
3. Transformation of institutional and regulatory environment. Formulating sustainable polices that balance the requirements of present and need of future generations.
4. International cooperation which is evident from the Paris climate deal.
5. Addressing land degradation problem and encouraging the people for organic farming and sustainable agriculture.
6. Reducing & treating industrial wastes before discharging into Rivers, Seas & Oceans which contributes 1.2% of India’s GDP.
7. Increasing the green cover across India to achieve a target of 33% of forest area.
8. Transportation generates 12% of GHG emissions. Creating awareness and efforts from individual level should be made by using public transport which contributes both for economy and environment.

 Conclusion:

OECD green growth report say almost 20 million jobs can be generated across the globe by 2030 if we shift our energy resources to non-conventional renewable resources. Moving from the traditional approaches of economic growth is not easy but combined efforts from individual and nations can make it possible.
