The Dalit community today has become more aggressive and determined to protest against the oppression they face in society. This is evident in aftermath of bhima koregaon violence: for this change in political articulation has been sought as a mean. This change has become a matter of concern for those forces which are divisive and polarizing.
It is a worrisome development for divisive forces because
a. Dalits till now constituted the major vote share of these forces
b. Have the potential to challenge their ruling government
c. Development of a united opposition against these forces ruling government
The source of new dalit assertion today lies in
a. Increase in violence against dalits by upper castes in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat e.g.- una violence
b. Education penetration and economic development
c. Awareness of the constitutional rights available to them and refusal to submit to same old oppressive forces
d. Growing importance in political arena
The inspiration for this assertion shrines from
a. Historical events like battle of bhima koregaon representing and proving dalit velour.
b. Great leaders like Dr. Bhimrao ambedkar who urged the dalit community to come together and assert for their rights.
c. Growing political clout
The probable consequences of new dalit assertion movement are:-
a. Rise of a united front challenging the hindutva forces.
b. Demand for stringent laws.
the centre and state government should take cognizance of the depth of the problem and must take steps to address this growing frustration and anger in dalit community. Though there are laws like SC AND ST prevention of atrocities act .The government should adopt some confidence building measures to generate peace and harmony among communities.
