Reservation in educational institutions and in public employment endeavours to create an egalitarian society and a welfare state. It is an affirmative action suited to the needs of a "Socialist Democratic Republic" like ours. But lately there has been growing anti-reservation sentiments across the country. Govt have been trying to address this issue.
Reasons for anti-reservation sentiment:
1. Agrarian crisis: Agriculture has not been able to provide gainful employment to people. Even landed farmer feeling the heat.
2. Poor human capital: Investment in human resources has been abysmal.
3. Monopolising resservation: Caste based reservation is root cause as people from certain community ensure themselves to perpetually avail reservation even though their socio-economic status is far better than unreserved category.
4. Vote bank politics: Since last few decades its been used as vote earning tool while genuine reforms are kept at bay. Now this is being turned on its head.
To address this growing anti-reservation sentiment following can be done:
1. Investment inhuman capital: the is dire need of investment in education ,health , skill development and vocational training etc. Skill India,Digital India, Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyaan(PMDISHA) , Start Up Stand Up India etc are steps in the right direction , however this needs to done on wider scale and with more investments.
2. Revamping of Educational Framework: Our education system needs "Disruptive Revamp". We are still following age old education policy which are mend for making us clerks. This not only suppress our creative capacities but also compel us to conform to monotonous and highly inefficient human capital. No wonder the say people perform extraordinarily well when provided with conducive environment.
3. Giving impetus to Manufacturing and Agriculture: These two sectors are employment provider, so by reviving these two sectors we will be solving many of our socio-economic problems. Skill development and vocation training is precondition for development of manufacturing sector. Our agriculture need to be modernised and linked with market.
CONCLUSION:Skill development and quality education to all can make us manufacturing hub and a "knowledge society". Our youth have capabilities and creativity to become innovators and developers if we provide them with conducive environment. Once we are able to do that reservation would become immaterial.
