Recently Union govt announced Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahaabhiyan (KUSUM) Scheme to encourage farmers for solar farming.
Key objective of the Schmes:
1. To provide additional income to farmers by giving them option to sell additional power to the power grid through solar power projects set up on their barren lands.
2. To provide water security to farmers through provision of assured water sources through solar water pumps , both off-grid and grid connected.
Features:
1. It will support the financial health of DISCOMs by reducing the burden of subsidy to the agriculture sector and will support the States in meeting the Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPOs) targets.
2. KUSUM Scheme aims for decentralized solar power production of up to 28250 megawatt (MW) over a period of five years.
Challenges:
1. Solar energy is not going to generate all the season since there also alternate option.
2. Setup solar pumps at small farming is very costly since farmers will not adopt solar pumps at smaller farm.
Prospects:
1. 60% borne by Govt 30% by loan and remain borne by farmers will be more reasonable to farmers for solar pump.
2. This going to achive the target around 28% of 100gw of solar energy and it will also help to achieve etageerd of 100gw by 2022.
CONCLUSION;It is welcome steps in terms of farmers welfare since govt also encourage farmers to adopt the solar power and improve the irrigation facility.
