Explain the main purpose of World Food Day. According to World Food Day 2017, what is the situation of hunger in the world? Is global waste of grains considered to be the leading cause of starvation? Which solutions will you present for diagnosing this problem?

The Food and Agriculture Organization was established on October 16, 1945. The member countries of this organization decided to celebrate on October 16 as 'World Food Day' from 1979 onwards. The first World Food Day was celebrated on October 16, 1980.

The objective of World Food Day is to create awareness among people about the problem of starvation and poverty so that the waste of food can be minimized. The theme of 2017 theme is 'Changing the future of migration and investing in food security and rural development'. It is known that due to the migrants fleeing from poor and war-torn countries, the problem of hunger is becoming increasingly serious.

According to World Food Day, 2017 globally, starvation conditions:

According to World Food Day, 2017, about 85 million people are in a state of starvation at the global level. This number is about 13 percent of the world's total population.

Of the 85 million people in the world who suffer from starvation, almost 200 million are from India. Thus, about one-fourth of the total number of people suffering from starvation resides in India.

Women share 60 percent of the total population with starvation.

About 9 million people die every year due to food shortage. Out of these 9 million people, there are 39 million children.

Is global waste of grains considered to be the leading cause of starvation?

The waste of grains in different countries of the world, including India, is a major cause of starvation problem.

Understand this with the following facts:

Worldwide, about 1.3 billion tonnes of food items are annual waste. Similarly, about 40 percent of the total food grains produced in India is destroyed.

Thus, if the above-mentioned food wasted, the food can be provided four times to the people of the world with 85 million starvations.

Measures used to solve this problem to make people acquainted with the reality of starvation situation in the world and developing the sensitivity to this problem.

There is also a significant amount of carbon emissions from the waste of grains. So make people aware of this scientific fact too.

Production will be increased using high yielding seeds as the need to produce more than 60 percent more food to fill the growing population by 2050.

Conclusion:

It can be concluded that lack of food and lack of political will is a major reason for starvation and malnutrition. By controlling this waste, the problem of starvation can be resolved to a great extent.
