SAFETY AT Railway unmanned level crossings
Railway track crosses roads at many places and such locations are called level crossings.level crossing means THE INTERSECTION OF ROAD WITH RAILWAY TRACK AT THE SAME LEVEL.In indian railways, there are two types of level crossings, that is,manned level crossing and other is unmanned level crossing.manned level crossing are those wherein a railway gateman is available at the gate .he closes and opens the gate based on train movement.hence.the road users are safe.un-manned level crossing are those where gate is not pprovided and hence gateman is not available.
Accidents generally happen at unmanned level crossings primarily due to road users not following the safety rules while passing through the railway level crossings.road vehicle drivers should not use mobile phones while driving ,and also stop the music in the road vehicles while passing through level crossing.
At the unmanned level crossings ,vehicle drivers and road users should take following precautions before crossing.
While approaching unmanned level crossing, slow down the speed of the vehicle
Before crossing the unmanned level crossing, stop the vehicle before STOP board.
After stopping the vehicle ,driver should check both on right hand side and left hand side of the track to ensure that no train is approaching towards level crossing ,then only the vehicle should cross the track safety .if he is not able to see it himself due to any reason ,he should ask somebody else in the vehicle to get down and make the check.
The responsibility to cross the unmanned level crossing safety lies on road vehicle drivers.
