In the recent past, there was a dispute about 'Rasgulla' between the states of West Bengal and Odisha state when the governments of both the states applied for geographical indicators for 'Rasgulla'.
The main reason:
• In the year 2011, the West Bengal Government said that Rasogulla was discovered in West Bengal and therefore it was found in G.I. Tag should be provided.
• According to West Bengal, in 1868 AD, a resident of Calcutta, Nauveen Chandra Das, had invented 'Rasgulla'. It is known that Rasgulla is called 'Rosogulla' in Calcutta.
On the other hand, the Odisha government claimed that the search for 'Rasgulla' was first made in Odisha. From here, the rules were made by the Bengali people to create Rasgulla.
• The Odisha government presented the evidence and said that the Rasgulla has been offered many times for the sake of God in the Jagannath temple of Puri.
• The Government of Odisha presented the records of the temple as well as 12th century documents so that Rasgulla GI's Get the tag out of it.
• But ultimately the arguments of West Bengal were recognized in this case and it was for Rasgulla.G. I Tag provided
