The Water Revolution Campaign is being operated from 2015-16. Under this, efforts are being made to provide concrete shape to water management and water conservation. A comprehensive and consolidated approach is being adopted by involving all the stakeholders under this campaign so that it can be given a form of public movement.

Major objectives of the Water Revolution campaign:

Strengthening to the participation of all stake holders at the grassroots level including Panchayati Raj Institutions and Local Bodies in water conservation and development programs.

Adopt and promote old traditional measures in relation to water conservation.

Increasing livelihood security through water security in rural areas.

The implementation of the Water Revolution campaign is being done by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Conservation. At national level, it is being monitored by the special secretary and at the state level by the Principal Secretary of the State Government.

Major activities to be operated under the Water Revolution campaign:

Under 'Jal Kranti Abhiyan' the 'Jal Gram Yojana' is being operated. Under 'Jal Gram Yojana', two villages are selected from every district. The entire activities related to water conservation are conducted in these two villages.

Similarly, under the 'Model Command Area Development' program is also being operated. Under this, about 1000 hectare area in any state will be identified as a Model Command Area.

States under the Water Revolution campaign are being encouraged to form 'State Water Policy' under National Water Policy 2012.

In addition, extensive public awareness programs are also being conducted under the Water Revolution campaign. Social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, as well as radio, television are being supported for this.

            It can be concluded that the Water Revolution is an important step towards water conservation and development. Under this, an overall and consolidated approach is being adopted by involving all stakeholders.
