The following points must be noted carefully in the study of the gender.
(a)Neuter gender is applied to names of lifeless things.So generally material and abstract nouns are of the neuter gender , e.g.,
Ex.(1) A tree has its own beauty.
(2) Beauty is at its best in youth.
(b) Collective nouns even when they denote living beings , are consider of the neuter gender ; as
Ex.(1) The disciplinary committee has called it's meeting.
(c). Young children and lower animals may also be spoken of as the neuter gender ;as
Ex.(1) The baby clung on to its mother .
(2) The donkey raised it's tail and ran forward.
(d) Lifeless objects are sometimes personified , especially in poetry . It means that they are spoken of as living beings Then they are regarded as males or females.
Note:
(A) The Masculine gender is applied to things known for their strength and violence ; such as The sun , Time , Death , War , Summer , Winter , etc.
Ex.(1) The Sun sheds his bright light on all alike .
(2) Death lays his icy hands on kings too.
(B) The Feminine gender is applied to things known for their beauty , grace and gentleness ; such as The Moon , The Earth , Spring ,Nature ,Truth , Justice , Peace , Victory , Hope , Mercy ,Charity , etc.
Ex (1) Peace hath her victories no less renowned than war .
(2) Spring has spread her green carpet everywhere.
(3) The earth endures the atrocities of mankind with her patience.
