The expansion of the practical domain of morality also includes environmental ethics. Attaching moral worth to something which is inherently invaluable and associated with the very existence of humanity is not only practical but ethical.
Justification of attaching moral cause to protection of environment :
1) The ecological services that we gain are priceless and technology is no substitute for them in near future.
2) The utilitarian principles advocate that the welfare of all and inclusion is only possible if environmental protection is taken at war footing.
3) The concept of Deep Ecology illuminates the idea of intrinsic inherent value of environment and it must be respected and preserved at all costs.
4) The fundamental interdependence of biological diversity necessary for human existence is only possible if environment is protected.
5) The environment is the debt that we, present generation, have taken from our future generation and it shall be our prime duty to return it to them in most sacred form.
CONCLUSION:Protection of environment is not some alien concept to us rather it is our ancient value. The vedas advise us to treat saplings as our children, earth as mother goddess and water bodies as devotionally sacred. Our moral reasoning shall dictate our ethical actions and protection of environment shall become our utmost priority.
