INDIAN AGRICULTURE DEPENDS UPON THE PREDICTION OF INDIAN METEROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT. WHY ACCURATE METEROLOGICAL PREDICTIONS NECESSARY?WHY IMD NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE ACCURATE METEROLOGICAL PREDICTIONS?

Indian agriculture is the backbone of an indian economy where more than half of our population is engaged in agriculture and allied sectors for sustainability.

However it is an irony that despite dependence on agriculutre india still lacks in providing accurate meterological predictions to farming community therefore leading to stress, trauma, exploitation, suicides etc

Why accurate meterological predictions are necessary....
A.. to allow early predictions of arrival of monsoons
B.. to allow farmers to make arrnagments to sell their produce, arrnaging transport facilities etc in advance
C.. to relieve stress and suspicion from the minds of farmers
D.. to allow farmers to arrange for an alternate employment in case of a delayed or failed monsoon
E.. to allow government to frame policies in case of crop failure due to drought
F.. to save time and money of farmers in purcahsing seeds, fertilizers, inputs etc in case of a delayed or failed monsoon

Why IMD not able to provide accurate meterological predictions...
A.. inclination towards empirical method of predictions rather than analytical method as done in USA
B.. defunct/inefficient meterological stations
C.. less number of meterological stations as per the need
D.. lack of skilled manpower in these meterological stations
E.. lack of blockwise data also acts as a roadblock as rains varies from region to region

CONCLUSION:Hence the need of the hour is to increse capacity of IMD such as skilled manpower, infrastructure such as more number of meterological staions, radars, satellites, capacity building of metrological stations, international collaborations in meterology etc to provide accurate weather predictions to the annaprnas of india.
