Youths are everything, they have the capability to do anything out of the box, the only thing they need is the direction or a mentor for the future of our country. Only graduation certificate is not enough. We need skills. It is estimated that young adults are more likely to be unemployed than adults in our society and are continuously exposed to the lower quality of jobs. Similarly, it goes for the women also who are underemployed, doing a job on a part-time basis or are underpaid. The issue of unemployment is a major concern for industry and also for the country. It is one of the major issues in the world. Even the developed countries have to deal with this problem. It not only affects the individual but also affects the growth of the country.
To cope up with all this problem the United Nations came together and observes 15th July as the world youth skill day. In December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 15th July as World Youth Skills Day. The goal was to achieve better socio-economic conditions for today’s youth as a means of addressing the challenges of unemployment and underemployment. The United Nations held special events at the headquarter. World Youth Skill day also raise awareness about the importance of investing in youth skill development and also gives them chance to contribute to the society and the country.
Why is World Youth Skill Day Important for India in 2018?
The economy of India is growing rapidly. We are determined to lead in the global economy, but still, are struggling to fight with the major problems like Unemployment. Along with unemployment, there are other major problems faced by India, such as Corruption, Poverty, Black money, huge population, Illiteracy and many other. So, to make India a better country for citizens unemployment should be tackled but before that we need to find out what are the root causes of unemployment in India.
Causes of Unemployment in India
Huge Population: The huge population of 1.25 billion people in India is one of the major problems that are causing unemployment in India. There are very few job opportunities available which are not sufficient for the huge demand for employment.
Theoretical Education: The education system in India focuses more on theoretical knowledge whereas the practical knowledge is necessary for any job. In India, only the grades are considered as the measure of intelligence rather than the skills.
Superior Technology: In technology and other companies, whenever an employee or worker is has a job of doing same and repetitive work, it can be replaced by the machines to do the automation of that process. Machines avoid the human errors. When the company upgrades the technology it is working on to some other technology then the employees are also asked to upgrade(learn the new technology) or they have to leave the job.
Economic Reasons: The recession is one of the major reasons for unemployment. The ups and downs in the market create uncertainties for the company, hence sometimes they have to cut down the number of employees. Also whenever a company shuts down all the employees of that company become unemployed.
Lack of Motivation: The rising unemployment makes a negative impact on people’s mind. It discourages qualified people to find the job. Hence they lose the hopes of having a job and earning. This type of unemployment is called as voluntary unemployment.
