Alauddin Khilji (1296-1316)

  • He came to the throne by treacherously murdering his uncle and father-in-law jalauddin Khilji
  • He proclaimed himself Sultan winning over the nobles and soldier's to his side by lavish use of gold.
  • He massacred the rebellious nobles, relatives, family members and the Mongols who had settled in Delhi. Alauddin gave harsh punishment even to the wife and children of all nobles.
  • Alauddin framed a series of regulations to prevent the nobles from conspiring against him. They were forbidden to hold banquets of festivals or to form marriage alliance without the permission of the Sultan.
  • To discourage the festival parties, he banned the use of wines and intoxicants. He also instituted a spy service to inform the Sultan of all the nobles said and did.
  • He first conquered Gujarat and married to Raja's wife Kamla Devi. He acquired Making Kafur from here.
  • Then he captured Ranthambhore, Chittor and Malwa.
  • Malik Kafur was sent towards South to expand the territory
  • He defeated Yadava king of Devagiri, Ramchandra Deva, Kakatiya king Pratap Rudra Deva l. Hoyasala king of Dwar Samudia king Vira Bala lll and Pandyas of Madhuri (king Mahavarman Kulshekhara)..                          MARKET/ECONOMIC REFORMS :- 
  • Alauddin controlled the market by some regulations.
  • Fix the cost of all commodities.
  • He set up three markets at Delhi. All goods for sale were brought to open the market called 'Sarai-Adi'.
  • Three new post were made : . Diwaan-e-riyasat - This controlled the business means.                                       Shena-e-mandiMuhtasib - He was the daroga of market.                                        Muhtasib - This used to take care of the weighting.
  • Ailaudin removed all the corrupttionist.
  • Tax was also levied on gazing land and houses.
  • With a view to increase the income of state the manipulate the land revenue system. He got the land to be measured so he could know on how much land forming is done. Due to his land revenue system income of the state increased.
  • Alauddin is king between (1296-1316 AD). And in 1316 AD was died.
