Know about Ro-Ro ferry Service.

This Ro - Ro ferry serivce was started by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22 October, 2017 Gujarat.

By this service 360 KM distance was reduced and it covers in 31 Km. as we can see in Figure given below:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to Gujarat for the third time this month on Sunday to inaugurate yet another slew of projects, with the announcement of elections to the state assembly expected anytime soon. As part of his ribbon-cutting visit, Modi launched the first phase of a roll-on roll-off, or Ro-Ro, ferry service between Ghogha in Bhavnagar district and Dahej in Bharuch. He also claimed that this was the first project of its kind in India, and indeed across South East Asia, he insisted that no one else has built something as big as this.

This is a priceless gift is going to all of India, from Ghoga. The first phase of the Ro-Ro ferry service between Ghogha and Dahej is being launched. In India, this is the first project of its kind. In fact, no one in South East Asia has built such a big project,” Modi said, at the inauguration ceremony in Ghogha, Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase 1 of the ‘roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro)’ ferry service between Ghogha and Dahej in Gujarat on Sunday. The ro-ro ferry will ply the Gulf of Khambhat between peninsular Saurashtra and South Gujarat. Ghogha situated in Bhavnagar district of Saurashtra lies 17 nautical miles (32 km), across the gulf from Dahej in Bharuch district.

A first of its kind in India, the ferry will be able to carry up to 100 vehicles (cars, buses and trucks) and 250 passengers between the two ports. The ro-ro ferry services are vessels made to carry wheeled cargo that are driven on and off the ferry on their own wheels or using a platform vehicle. The wheeled cargo includes, cars, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, trailers, and railroad cars.

As for the Asian neighbourhood, there are plenty of examples of Ro-Ro services operating – in Bangladesh, in the Philoppines and a particularly ambitious one between the Philippines and Indonesia.
