NURJAHAN

  • Nurjahan was daughter of Iranian Mirza Gayasbeg. Her real name was Mehrunnisa. His father married him to a soldier 'Sher Afghan' in 1607 Sher Afghan died. Jahangir mesmerized by his beauty married by Mehrunnisa and conferred the title of 'Noor -Mahal' to her.
  • Jahangir's wife Nurjahan (Daughter of Itamad-daulah) excerise tremendous influence over the state affairs. She was made the official Badshah Begum. Coins were struck in her name and all royal farmans beared her name. She got high position for her father and her brother (Asaf Khan). He restored Mohammed faith prohibited the sale of wine and tobacco. Nurjahan married her daughter by Sher Afgani to Jahangir's youngest son, Shahryar, and she supported him for the heir apparent.
