Prions : Discovered by Alper et al. Prions : In modern medicine certain infections neurological diseases were found to be transmitted by agent consisted of abnormally folded protein. The agent was similar in size to viruses. These agents called prions. The most notable diseases caused by prions are (i) Kuru disease (laughing death disease in humans) (ii) Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE or Mad cow disease) (iii) Scrapie disease in sheep (iv) Creutz Feldt Jakob disease
