Body Fluids and Circulation
All living cells have to be provided with nutrients, oxygen and other essential substances .
Complex organisms use special fluid within their bodies to transport these materials. In humans, blood and lymph are used for this purpose BLOOD.
Blood is a mobile connective tissue composed of a fluid, the plasma and the cells, the blood corpuscles Blood forms about 30-35 percent of the extracellular fluid (ECF The volume of blood in an adult person of 70 kg weight is about 5.5 litres It is a slightly alkaline fluid having pH 7.4.pH of blood in arteries is more than in veins.
=Plasma=
Plasma is slightly alkaline non-living intercellular substance which constitutes about 55% part of the blood.
It is a pale yellow but transparent and dear fluid
Composition of plasma
90-92% of plasma isformed ofwater
Plasma proteins constitute about 7 to 8%, part of plasma. These mainly include albumin, globulin, immunoglobulin, prothrombin and fibrinogen Excretory substances includes ammonia, urea, uric acid, creatine, etc.
Dissolved gases-02, CO2 and N2 are present in dissolved form in water of plasma Other substances present are anticoagulant, hormones, vitamins and enzymes.
-Nutrients-glucose, fatty acids, phospholipids, cholesterol, fats, amino acids, nucleosides, etc Serum is plasma without clotting factors Plasma protein albumin is required for osmotic balance, globulin for defence mechanism, and fibrinog for blood clotting.
