Indian Geography

  • India is surrounded by the Himalayas in the North by the Indian Ocean in the South.
  • The tropics of cancer divides her into two parts. The Bay of Bengal is situated in the East & the Arabian Sea is sotusitu in the West of India.
  • India is fully situated in the Northern Hemispheres, which is located between the latitudes 8°4" North to 37°6" North & between longtitudes 68°7" East to 97°25" East.
  • The Tropics of Cancer through eight states of India, which are - Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Tripura, & Mirozam.
  • Nepal and Bhutan & China are in the North of India; Sri Lanka & the Indian Ocean are in the South of India; Bangladesh, Myanmar and the Bat of Bengal are in the East of India & Pakistan and the Arbian Sea are in the West of India. The Palk Strait and the Bay of  Manner separate India & Sri Lanka.
  • The Southern most points  of India's land is Kanyakumari-Mumbai (Cape Comorin) & the Nortern most points is Indira Point, which is located at 6°45' North latitudes.
  • Gujarat has the longest coastal line in India. The it is of Andhra Pradesh & then of Maharastra. 
  • The land border of India is arround 15,200 km, total coastal border including the main land & the Island is 7,515.6 Km. and the coastal boarder of Main land is 6,100 km. Long.
  • The Standard time line is 82½° East longitude, which passes through the vertical center line of India, which is at Naini near Allahabad.
  • The area of India is 32,87,26$ km. According to the population cansus of 2011, the population of India is 121.02 Crores.
  • India is the 7th largest country in the world in term of area.
  • India is surrounded by Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, etc.
  • Goa is the smallest state of India in terms of Area.
  • According to the census of 2011, Uttar Pardesh is the largest state in terms of Population (19.96 Crores) & sikkim is the smallest state with population of 6.07 lakhs.
  • The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is the largest union territory in terms of area & Lakshadweep is the smallest union territory area.
  • As per the population is concerned, Delhi is the largest union territory area & lakshadweep is smallest union territory area.
  • Madhya Pradesh is the largest, Plateau region of India.
  • Rajasthan is the largest state of India in terms of desert.
  • The largest forest area is in Madhya Pradesh. 
  • The natural structure of India is divided into four parts - mountain region, planes of Ganga & Sindhu, deserte region & peninsular region in the South.
