Mala Sinha was born on November 11th in the year 1936, is an famous Indian actress .She was born in Kolkata to Napali Christian family in Nepal and her father name was Albert Sinha. Her childhood name was Alda which renamed to Mala because most of her school friends used to tease her by calling Alda Dalda and she used to get frustrated with that name. After that Alda Sinha renamed to Mala Sinha after getting in to movies. She was interested in Singing and Dancing.
Mala Sinha acted in Hindi, Bengali and Nepali films. She Started her career as a child artist. She was noticed by Bengali film-maker Ardhendu Bose in a school play, who wanted her to act in his film Roshanara (1952).There after she appeared in number of other Mythological movies such as Jai vaishno Devi, Shri Krishna Leela, Jog Biyog and Dhooli.
Mala Sinha got opportunity as a heroine in the movie Rangeen Raatein directed by Kidar Sharma. Her first Hindi movie was Baadshah , then Ekadashi. Both did not do well. Mala Sinha entered the A-league with Guru Dutt s classic Pyaasa (1957). Her performance was acclaimed by both critics and audience. Then came Yash Chopra s directorial debut Dhool Ka Phool (1959), which firmly established her as a great performer. Mala Sinha was one of the most popular actresses throughout the era of 60s.She has also been a heroine in Nepali and Bengali films.
She was married to her co-star from Nepali films Chidambar Prasad Lohani in 1968. After her marriage, she used to come and stay in Mumbai to shoot films while her husband stayed in Nepal running his business.Some of her famous movies includes Pyasa, Phir Subah Hogi, Dhool Ka Phool, Hariyali Aur Raasta, Parvarish, Gumrah, Bahurani, Mere Huzoor , Himalaya Ki God Mein ,Aasra ,Do Kaliyan ,Aankhen.
Mala Sinha won 4 National film fare awards for best actress, Life time achievement award and Felicitation by the Government of Nepal.
