INDIAN RIVER SYSTEM PART 2

The Jhelum River :- 

  • This river originates from  Sheshnaag & meets into the Wooler Lake after flowing for 112 km in the North West. Then it flows at the depth of 2,130 meters near Baramula.
  • After some distance, Kishanganga meets into this river.
  • It flows from Dana Khan & Behara after moving on from Jammu & meet the River Chenab.

The Chenab River : - 

  • The river originates from the height of 4,900 meter, in the form of two Rivers named Chandra & Bhaga, in the opposite direction of Baralacha pass of Nahul. As it comes out from the snowy mountains, water constantly flow from the rivers.
  • Both of these meets near Tada & flow together up to 161 km. In the North West in Chamba district.
  • This rivers flows up to 1,180 km. in India & the flow area for this river is 26753 km².

The Ganga River : - 

  • The origin of this river in the Gomukhi glacier, Which is located  near the Gangotri at the height more than 5,165 meters from the sea level.
  • This river is called 'Ganga' when two tops of this river - Alakananda & Bhagirathi - meets at Devprayag. Moving towards the South, South - west; Ganga swept down from the mountains near Haridawar.
  • This river flows in the South before Hardware & then flows in the South East.
  • Moving ahead, Gomati meets Ganga near Gazipur & Ghaghra meets near Ballia.
  • River Son Nadi near Patna & then moving ahead, Gandak & Kosi river meets this river. The main stream of Ganga enters into Bangladesh flowing toward the East and South East after Farrakhan.
  • Here this river is known as Padma. It flows in so many streams from here & then reaches towards the Sea after passing through the delta.
  • The area of drain of Ganga in India is about 8.61 lakh km². The important cities like Haridawar, kanpur, Allahabad, Banaras, Patna, Munger, Murshidabad, etc are located at the bank of Ganga. The total length of Ganga is 2,525 km.
