INDIAN RIVER SYSTEM PART 3

The Yamuna River :- 

  • The origin of this river is the Yamanotri ice flow, which is located at the wrstewe slope of Bander Poonchh. This river flows towards the South - West. Then crosses the Nagtibba miunmoun range & meets her tributary Tons. Then cuts the Shivaliks range after covetico some distance in Dehradun district & enters into the plain.
  • Here it flows towards the South for some distance. This river forms a large arch. The lenght of this river till it's meets to Ganga in Allahabad is 1,375 km. The drain area of this river is 3,50,000 km². Chambal, Ken, Betawa, Sindhu, etc. are the tributaries of Yamuna.

​The Sharda River : - 

  • This river originates from the Milam glacier located in the North - East Kumau region at the Tibetan border. 
  • This river is also well known as the  Black River  (Kali Nadi). There it is called as Kali Ganga instead of Kali.
  • This river forms a border between Kumau & Nepal. After Covering the distance of 160 km, River Saryu (East Ramganga ) meets into this river near Pancheshwar.

The Ghaghara River :- 

  • The origin of this river is Bharchachungar glacier, Raxastaal (Nepal). 
  • It flows from the middle of Nepal & flows up to about 160 km. towards the South of Brahmaputra valley before crossing the Himalayas.

​The Gomati River :- 

  • It originates from the height of 200 meters from the sea level in Pilibhit district. It is a meadow river flowing from the North West to South West, in the middle of the river Ganga & Ghaghara. Lucknow city is located at the bank of this river.

​The Cosi River :- 

  • The main stream of this river is seven streams together. These streams are Milanvi, Bhotiya, Aruna, Tamba , Likkhu, and Dugdh Kosi & Tambur. These streams together are called the River Kosi.
  • "Aruna is called 'Pangachu' in Tibet". Aruna originates from the North of the Gosaithan hills & flows up to 320 km. in the South - West of Sampu. River Yaru meets Aruna afterwards.
