World Geography Part 4

North America : - 

  • It is the third largest continent of the world. It is bounded by the Pacific Ocean on the west, Atlantic Ocean on the East, Arctic Ocean on the North and Caribbean Sea and Panam Canal in the South. It comprises 23 countries.
  • Important mountain range are Alaska, Aleutian, Appalachian, Brooks, Cascade, Coast, Rockies, Sierra Nevada, Sierra Madre etc.
  • Highest peak is Mt. Mc kinley ( 6194 )m. Lowest point is the Death Valley (86 m below sea level ).
  • Largest lakes arrangeds from West to East are Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontatio. Out of these, only Michigan lies entirely in USA. Others are shared by USA with Canada.
  • Important rivers are Colorado, Columbia, Mackenzie, Mississippi, Missouri, St. Lawrence etc.
  • Important dams is the Hoover dam on Colorado River. It is the highest dam of the world.
  • Population is more than 529,600,000 people.
  • Diverse climatic types are found in North America.
  • Important language are English, Spanish and French.

(i) United States of America : - 

  • It is the fourth largest country in area and third largest country in population in the world.
  • It's capital is Washington D.C. D.C stands for District of Colombia. It is located on the bank of river Poteomac.
  • USA is divided into 50 states. The states in decending order of area are Alaska, Texas, California, Montana etc.
  • The smallest state is the Rhode Island.
  • The most polulous state is California.
  • The rocket launching centre of USA IS Cape Kennedy, Florida.
  • The busiest airport of USA IS JF Kennedy Airport, New York.
  • The driest and the hottest place in USA is Death Valley.
  • Pittsburgh in USA is the iron and steel capital of the world.
  • Detroit in USA is the Automobile capicapital of  the world.
  • Grand Canyon : It is made by the Colorado river in Arizona. According to the latest survey, Grand canyon is the most visitevisited place by the tourists in the world.
