Functions Of national statistical Commission

  1. To identify the core statistic which are of national importance and are critical to the development of the economy. 
  2. To constitute professional communities or working groups to assist the commission on various technical issue. 
  3. To evolve National policies and priorities relating to the statistical system. 
  4. To evolve standard statistical concepts, definitions, classifications and methodologies in different areas in statistics and lay down National quality standard on core statistics. 
  5. To evolve National strategies for the collection,  tabulation, dissemination of core statistics, including the release calendar for various data sets. 
  6. To evolve National Strategies for human resource development on official statistics including information technology and communication need of the statistical system . 
  7. To evolve measures for improving public trust in official statistics. 
  8. To evolve measure for effective coordination with State Government and union territory administration on statistical activity including strengthening of existing institutional mechanism. 
  9. To exercise statistical co-ordination between Minister, department and other agencies of the central government. 
  10. To exercise statistical audit over the statistical activities to ensure equality and integrity of the statistical product.
  11. To recommend to the central government, or any state government, as the case may be, measures to effectively implement the standards, Strategies and measures evolved under the clauses (c) to (h) ;
  12. To advise the government on the requirement of Legislative measures on statistical matter including the Statue of the national statistical commission; and
  13. To monitor and review The functioning of the statistical system in the light of the laid down policies, standards, methodologies and recommended measures for enhanced performance.
