India celebrated 22nd December 2013 as the National mathematics day honouring the 131 birth anniversary of famous Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan since 2011 20 December is celebrated as national mathematics day every year the Indian government had also declared 2012 as national mathematics year the national mathematics day is celebrated to honour his contribution to the field of mathematics and also to keep us alive to inspire the future mathematician
About Srinivasa Ramanujan--
Ramanujan was born in the year 1887 and lived during the British rule in India his life was totally devoted to mathematician at young age of 11 Ramanujan started showing signs of Genius he had attained expertise in trigonometry and developed many theorems by himself he got his paper published in journal of the Indian mathematical society in the year 1911 Ramanujan compiled nearly 3900 results mostly identities and equation on his own without any assistance meaning of the results were completely original and novel such as Ramanujan prime the Ramanujan theta function these result and identities have opened entirely new fields of work and inspired further research he came out with his own theory of divergent series also the word out the riemann series the elliptic integral hypergeometric series and the functional equations of the data functions the number 1729 is famously known as the Hardy Ramanujan number
