Planning Commission India vision 2020

The planning commission released a document entitled 'India vision 2020' January 2003 which represent pre - estimate the economy's progress during coming next two decades. A committee headed by Mr Shyam Prasad Gupta member of the planning commission has prepared this document. the document does not forecast the real situation of the economy after two decades but highlights the various possibilities which can be attained during the period.

The salient feature of the document are as follows:

  1. 9% annual growth rate by 2020
  2. elimination of unemployment illiteracy and poverty by 2020 
  3. per capita income to become four time
  4. cent- percent school registration for children between the age group 6-14 years
  5. creation of additional 20 crore employment opportunity at the rate of  2% annual growth rate by 2020.
  6. employment in agriculture will cut down to 40% from present level of 56%
  7. Urban population percentage will touch the level of 40% from the present level 25.5%.

The document also represent a few negative points Like:

  1. environmental problem s
  2. water crisis in big cities.
  3. malnutrition despite surplus of food grain production.
