Election for president are done by

  • Preference based
  • by ballot paper
  • by ballot box
  • by Single Transferable Vote
  • by absolute majority

Oath given to the president

  • Chief Justice of India (CIF)  give oath to the president
  • In the absence of (CIF) Chief Justice of India  Senior most judge of Supreme Court give oath to the president

Tenure of the president

  • 5 years

Resignation of President

  • President to vice president and
  • Vice President to president

Ordinance (Temporary Law) 

  • president has power to issue ordinance
  • time limit is 6 month 6 week
  • Ordinance come into force when Lok Sabha is not in session
  • firstly Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha need to pass the bill then president sign the bill

Veto power of president (for general Bill)

  • Absolute Veto :-the president hold for sometime and then reject the bill
  • Suspensive Veto:- if the president send the bill for reconsideration after then the Parliament return back the bill to the president and the president is bound to give his ASSENT.
  • Pocket Veto:- President do not reject the bill, don't return the bill, don't give assent too, but hold the bill for unlimited time period.
