Loktak Lake is the biggest freshwater lake in Northeast India and is well known for the phumdis (heterogeneous mass of vegetation, soil and natural issue at various phases of deterioration) skimming over it. The Manipur's Forest and Environment Minister, Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh introduced India's first gliding research facility in Imphal on February 24, which will encourage the lake.
