Participle: present, past, and perfect

The participle 

1. Hearing the noise, the boy woke up.

2. I saw a girl carrying the basket.

Def. :  A participle is that form of the verb which partake both as an adjective and a verb in a sentence.

Eg. 

1. We met a girl carrying a basket.

2. The girl is carrying a basket.

Note : In sentence 1 carrying is working as adjective because it is qualifying noun (basket) and sentence 2 carrying is working as main verb of helping verb is. Hence they both are participle.

Kinds of participle 

Participle are of 3 kinds

Present participle V first form+ ing
Past participle V third form
Perfect participle Having + V third form

Present participle : 

1. A camle is running. (As verb)

2. He saw a running camle.( As adjective)

Past participle :

1. A tired man was sitting under a tree. (As adjective)

2. The work has tired me. ( As main verb)

Note : past participle is known as verb as third form of the ver.

Perfect participle: 

1. Having taken breakfast, he went to the office.

2.  Having failed twice, he did not dare to take the examination.

Note . Above both eg. are perfect participle.
