Our ears may turn red and hot because of environmental conditions, stress, anxiety, changes in ambient temperature certain foods or drinks, intense feelings of emotion or changes in our hormonal balance. Excessive exposure to either heat or cold may cause our ears to feel hot and look red. Sun burn also causes ears to become red and hot, if they are exposed to the rays of sun for long period
of time.
Red hot ears is a variation of blushing as warm blood is shunted to outer ears. The blood vessels involuntarily dilate, in response to high emotions and stimulation of sympathetic nervous system and release of adrenaline and
noradrenaline allowing the blood to rush, causing skin of ears to turn red and feel warm. Hence, the vasodilation
increases blood flow and also carries with it heat from the body. Thus blood flow causes the redness, and the heat causes the warmth that we perceive.
