President Ram Nath kovind conferred the gallantry award and the distinguished service decoration as a part of Defence investiture ceremony 2019 to armed forces personnel for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to the duty at solemn ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan
Among the recipient are Army chief General Bipin Rawat , who was presented the Param vishisht Seva Medal; major Tushar Gauba, who was awarded the Kirti chakra and Vice Admiral Sunil Anand , who was given the Nao Sena medal, among others

The Government of India constituted gallantry award on 26 January 1950 and Deemed to have effect from the 15th August 1947 further on 4th January 1950 to three more gallantry Awards that is Ashoka Chakra class I and class II and Ashok Chakra class III were instituted by the government of India on 4th January 1952 these award were renamed as the Ashok Chakra, the Kirti chakra and Shaurya Chakra respectively in 1967
