The second is the base unit of time in the International System of Units (SI) (French: Système International d’units), commonly understood and historically defined as 1/86400 of a day–this factor derived from the division of the day first into 24 hours, then to 60 minutes and finally to 60 seconds each and 60 seconds = 1 minute.
Second is a fraction of the day, as a fraction of an extrapolated year, and as the microwave frequency of a caesium atomic clock, and they have realized a sexagesimal division of the day from ancient astronomical calendars.
